Answers to common questions about booking, eye exams, OHIP, children's eye care, contact lenses, dry eye and our move.

Questions and answers

How does booking online work?

Choose an exam, an optometrist (or any optometrist) and a time that suits you. This sends us a request, and we hold that time for you while we check our schedule.

We then contact you by text, email or phone to confirm. Your appointment is booked only when we confirm it. If no times suit you, you can still send a request, or call us at (519) 663-9292.

What should I bring to my appointment?

  • Your Ontario health card
  • Your current glasses, including reading or computer glasses
  • Your contact lenses or the lens boxes
  • A list of the medications you take, including eye drops
  • Your insurance details, if you have private or workplace coverage

How do I change or cancel my appointment?

Use the link in your confirmation text or email to ask for a change or to cancel. If your appointment is soon, please call us at (519) 663-9292 instead.

How long does an eye exam take?

About 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the exam. We confirm the time when we book your appointment.

Will I get eye drops, and can I drive afterwards?

Your optometrist may use eye drops to widen (dilate) your pupils. This can blur your vision and make your eyes sensitive to light for a few hours.

Bring sunglasses, and consider arranging a ride home, especially if you are not sure how the drops will affect you.

How often should I have an eye exam?

It depends on your age, your eye health and your general health. Your optometrist will recommend when you should come back.

OHIP covers one major eye exam every 12 months for children and youth 19 and under and for adults with an eligible eye condition, and every 18 months for adults 65 and over.

Are eye exams covered by OHIP?

OHIP covers eye exams for some people:

  • Children and youth 19 and under: one major eye exam every 12 months
  • Adults 20 and older with an eligible medical condition affecting the eyes, such as diabetes or treated glaucoma: one major eye exam every 12 months
  • Adults 65 and over: one major eye exam every 18 months

Most adults aged 20 to 64 pay for their own eye exam, or use private insurance. See who pays for eye exams.

Does OHIP pay for glasses or contact lenses?

No. OHIP does not cover glasses or contact lenses. Private and workplace insurance plans often cover part of the cost, so check your plan.

When should my child have their first eye exam?

Your optometrist can recommend when to start and how often to come back. Children do not need to know their letters or be able to read to have an eye exam.

OHIP covers one major eye exam every 12 months for children and youth 19 and under.

Can I book an appointment for my child online?

Yes. When you request an appointment, choose that it is for your child and use your own phone number and email as the parent or guardian. You can also book for several family members in one request.

Do I need a contact lens fitting if I have a glasses prescription?

Yes. A glasses prescription does not include the measurements needed for contact lenses. A contact lens fitting checks how lenses fit your eyes and gives you a contact lens prescription.

I have never worn contact lenses. Where do I start?

Book a contact lens fitting. Your optometrist will check whether contact lenses suit your eyes and talk with you about the kinds of lenses that fit your needs and your routine.

What are the signs of dry eye?

  • Eyes that feel dry, gritty, burning or tired
  • Red or watery eyes
  • Blurry vision that clears when you blink

If you notice these often, book a dry eye assessment.

Is a dry eye visit covered by OHIP?

It depends on your age, your eye health and the type of visit. Call us at (519) 663-9292 before your visit and we will explain any fees.

Where is the clinic now?

We moved from Masonville Place (1680 Richmond St.) to Sherwood Forest Mall, 1225 Wonderland Rd. N., London, ON N6G 2V9, across from GoodLife. Our phone number is still (519) 663-9292.

Directions to our new location.

Did my records move to the new clinic?

Yes. Your patient file moved with the clinic, so you do not need to do anything. To ask for a copy, or to have your records sent to another provider, call us or ask at the clinic. How to get your records.

Do I need a referral to see an optometrist?

No. You can book an eye exam with us directly. For adults aged 20 to 64, a referral from a family doctor does not make an eye exam OHIP-insured (this changed on September 1, 2023).

What languages do your optometrists speak?

The College of Optometrists of Ontario register lists these languages of practice:

  • Dr. Dar Lenarcik: English, Polish, French and Spanish
  • Dr. Karolina Pniak: English, Polish and French
  • Dr. Tunde Agoston: English

You can choose your optometrist when you book.
